Our rum is made from first principles: molasses is fermented on-site (just as the old Caribbean pirates did, using living dunder), then double Mampoer Still distilled. Every stage happens right here at Karoo Still – no shortcuts, no outsourcing. Our evolving dunder culture and warm Karoo fermentations coax out rich esters, which transform into complex flavour during the two slow distillations in our South African traditional mampoer still. The result? A bold, full-bodied rum where no two batches are ever exactly alike. This is rum with character; raw, honest, and proudly crafted in Nieu-Bethesda

Perfect serves:
– Rum & Cola: 50 ml First Rum + 150 ml cola, over ice with a squeeze of fresh lime.
– Karoo Daiquiri: 50 ml First Rum + 25 ml fresh lime juice + 15 ml honey syrup, shaken with ice and strained. (Honey syrup: 1 part honey to 1 part warm water.)
– Gatsrivier: 50 ml First Rum + 150 ml Sprite + a dash of Bitter Goed, served over ice with a lime wedge.
– Karoo Sunset: 50 ml First Rum + 150 ml Fanta Orange, served over ice with an orange slice. You definitely won’t see the sun coming up, and may wake up with someone else’s clothes on.
– Rum Old Fashioned: 50 ml First Rum + 10 ml honey syrup + 2–3 dashes Bitter Goed, stirred over ice and finished with an orange peel.
– Straight or On the Rocks: 50 ml First Rum served over a large ice cube to appreciate the full character of the spirit.
