Karoo Still Gin Tasting - Proudly Made in Nieu-Bethesda
You have 4 gins in front of you and a bottle of our Bitters. Taste each neat first, then with a neutral tonic as you read the notes. You can add a drop of bitters after adding tonic, tasting before and after adding the bitters to experience its lifting effect on the Flavors.
1
Karoo Still London Dry Gin
Your reference point.
On the nose, expect a classic juniper—forward profile, lifted by fresh, dry botanicals. As with all our gins, botanicals are distilled in the vapour path.
The palate is crisp and well-defined. Juniper leads, supported by balanced herbal and lightly spiced notes. This is intentionally dry, built on clarity, not sweetness.
The finish is clean, dry, and gently warming, with no harsh aftertaste.
Dry gin is legally limited to a maximum of 0.1g sugar per litre—less than a pinch. Our base botanicals are juniper, coriander, and angelica root.
This recipe came to me through a slightly broken chain of memory and now uses roughly double the botanicals of typical recipes. It works-and it’s here to stay.
Drink With: Anything. This is your clean slate experiment freely.
2
Karoo Still Citrus Gin
Bright and expressive.
Fresh citrus leads on the nose—lemon, orange, grapefruit—supported by mint and rosemary, with blueberry for those who look closely. On the palate, citrus arrives first, followed by a balance of mint, rosemary, and blueberry. The texture is rounder and softer than the London Dry, with botanicals weaving together rather than competing.
The finish is fresh and lingering, carried by citrus oils and herbal lift.
Colour shifts slightly to a soft orange-gold, from fresh blueberries added post-distillation.
Drink With: On ice, or with a neutral tonic and plenty of ice.
3
Karoo Still Flowers & Spice Gin
Layered and nuanced.
Floral aromas lead—soft and fragrant—followed by gentle spice. The palate moves from delicate floral notes into a warm, spiced core, with hints of cardamom and coriander. Balance is key: elegant florals supported by structure, not heat. The finish is smooth and warming, with lingering spice.
Botanicals include chamomile, lavender, elderflower, cardamom, and coriander.
Drink With: On ice or with tonic and a slice of citrus.
4
Karoo Still Coffee Gin
Bold and unconventional.
Fresh coffee leads on the nose, with chocolate, vanilla, cardamom, and clove following. The palate is rich and textured and definitely coffee forward, supported by cocoa, spice, and a gentle sweetness from muscovado sugar. Despite its depth, the gin structure remains intact. The finish is long, with coffee and spice lingering. Made with decaffeinated coffee, cocoa nibs, vanilla, cardamom, and clove—no essences, only real ingredients.
Drink With: In coffee, on ice, or with tonic.
5
Karoo Still Bitter Goed
Old-world, bold, and bitter.
The nose is complex—herbal, earthy, and spiced, with notes of roots, bark, citrus peel, and warm spice.
On the palate, bitterness leads, balanced by spice and a touch of natural sweetness. Flavours evolve slowly, revealing layers of herbal depth and citrus lift.
The finish is long, dry, and pleasantly bitter.
Drink With: Add to G&Ts, Steelworks, or a Rock Shandy— experiment freely.
